Death Stranding Movie In The Works From A24 And Director Michael Sarnoski

In a report from Deadline, A Quiet Place: Day One and Pig director Michael Sarnoski is being eyed to helm a movie adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s mind-bending video game, Death Stranding. Sarnoski is currently in post-production on his next film, Death of Robin Hood for A24, which is also the studio looking to adapt the video game to the big screen alongside Kojima Productions, Square Peg will also act as producer on the project.
The title “Death Stranding” refers to a series of cataclysmic events that blurred the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead, bringing nightmarish creatures into a fragmented world on the brink of collapse. The film will look to explore the many mysteries surrounding this catastrophe in the same vein as the games.
Death Stranding boasts a player base of over 19 million people in the six years since it was first released on PlayStation 4 consoles. The game, which sees its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, launching later this year, is best known for its star-studded cast which includes the likes of Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux and Guillermo del Toro.
If successful, this project will add yet another high-profile IP to his filmography after last year’s hit A Quiet Place: Day One, which grossed more than $250 million worldwide. Sarnoski came to prominence after his directorial debut Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, garnered widespread critical acclaim. His movie, Death of Robin Hood, starring Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, and Bill Skarsgård, has yet to have a release date attached to it.
A trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach debuted at this year’s SXSW, along with the announcement of a worldwide concert tour based around the series and a collaboration with high-class watchmaker Hamilton. The newest entry to the franchise will see the likes of Troy Baker, Luca Marinelli, George Miller and Elle Fanning ing the already impressive cast.
