Hard Cell (2022)

After her crimes against cinema with the embarrassingly horrific Nan: The Movie, Catherine Tate is off to prison. That’s just literally  as Netflix unveil the Official Trailer for her comedy series Hard Cell, which gives off a big ‘The Office‘ vibe.

We probably won’t see any David Brent style ‘dance-offs’, the 6 episode series will adopt that documentary comedy style that made that cult show so popular. Set in the fictional all female  HMP Woldsley prison, Tate will play several of the characters. following the inmates and staff as they prepare for a stage musical production directed by ex-Eastenders star Cheryl Fergison.

If you enjoy Catherine Tate’s brand of humour, you’ll probably be in for a treat here. The trailer does introduce the characters she’ll play, the intro of the promo is vintage Tate as she eat her words…

Hard Cell is a documentary style comedy set in the fictional female prison, HMP Woldsley. Writer and creator Catherine Tate plays multiple characters from Laura Willis, the Governor who believes creativity leads to rehabilitation, to Big Viv, the psychopath lifer. Set over a 6 week period during which the inmates rehearse a musical directed by ex-Eastender’s star Cheryl Fergison. Rehearsals draw together an oddball collection of women as they find their voices, grow in confidence and strengthen their friendships. Funny yet surprisingly moving, Hard Cell leans into the comical truth of prison life.

The rest of the cast includes Christian Brassington, Niky Wardley, Cheryl Fergison, Lorna Brown, Caroline Harding, Jola Olajide, and Duncan Wisbey.

All 6 episodes of Hard Cell will be released exclusively on Netflix from 12th April.
